Lithuania is a fantastic country which is widly known in sports world for basketball. However, minifootball is the main sport that everyone prefers to play at his free time, as it happens everywhere in the world. Lithuanian Minifootball Association has proved its strong presence during the last years and FC Eagle Team-Frega is the first Lithuanian minifootball club that takes part in the EMF Champions League. The captain of the team, Vytautas Zemleckas, spoke to us about his passion.
– Which are the main differences between football and minifootball and why you prefer minifootball?
The main and fundamental difference is obviously that there are less players on the pitch. As a consequence, this is a more technical sport, with quicker tempo and greater frequency of player touches. You don‘t know which team will be the winner, beacause the leading team can change very quickly It’s more likely to feel the joy of the goal in minifootball.
– If you would win the EMF Champions League, what would you do?
If FC Eagle Team-Frega wins, my team and I would be ecstatic, so it’s hard to say what we will do at that moment! It would be a great achievement not only for our team, but also for all Lithuanian minifootball players and fans. It would be very cool to win the first European Minifootball Championship. I think all the team would celebrate loudly!
– Has the European Minifootball Federation changed the perspective of the way you think of your favorite sport, minifootball?
Our National Team has wide scope and support for improvement because of the European Minifootball Championship. We want to show to Europe, that Lithuanians can also play minifootball. We meet new football players, we find open-minded people, we have opportunity to see how other European teams play and learn from them.
