Match of the day and surprise of the day:
ITALY vs BELGIUM 4-3
Italy with a depleted squad got the better of Belgium in a 7 goal thriller, which was not only the game of the day, but also a surprise of the day. Belgium were favourites for the match but found themselves behind for long periods of the game but looked to have salvaged a point late on which would have guaranteed their place in the last 16, only for Italy to be awarded a penalty in the dying minutes, which they converted and wrestled back the lead. Belgium pushed forward and in the last second of the match, they thought they’d scored a dramatic equaliser only to find the Referee had already blown the whistle for full time. Italy progress, Belgium have to sit and wait for other results before they find out whether they’re through to the next round or not.
Team of the day:
HUNGARY
Hungary bounced back from their defeat against the Ukraine with an emphatic 8-0 win against Turkey, the biggest win so far in this year’s EMF Euros. The Hungarians were excellent and showed why no team will want to face them in the knockout stages after dismantling their opponents with some devastating play, which resulted in them creating numerous chances. They kept a high tempo up all game.
