Match of the day:

KAZAKHSTAN vs ISRAEL 2-5

Highlights and statistics >>

There is no doubt about the best match of the day. In the duel between Kazakhstan and Israel, a total of seven goals were scored, which is the maximum so far in the tournament. Despite the fact that the Israelis won 5-2, it was not straight forward and they had a few anxious moments along the way. At half time, the score was 1-1. However, Israel scored two quick goals right after the turnaround. However, the Kazakh team didn’t lie down and got a goal back in the 42nd minute but in the end it wasn’t enough as Israel scored two more.

Team of the day:

UKRAINE

There is not much to say about why Ukraine’s participation in this event is special. The Ukrainian team experienced a very warm welcome in the Steel Arena and underlined this with an opening game victory, beating a very strong Hungary side and one of the tournament favourites, 2-0. Check out Hungary – Ukraine match highlights and statistics >>

Player of the day:

GIORGI APTSIAURI

Profile and statistics >>

In the surprisingly one-sided match between Montenegro and Georgia, in addition to the tight Georgian defence which did not allow the Montenegrins a single shot on goal, the forward Giorgi Aptsiauri also shone. He scored twice in their 2-0 win for his team and became not only the hero of the match, but also the entire second day of the EMF EURO 2022. View Montenegro – Georgia match highlights and statistics >>

Surprise of the day:

SLOVAKIA vs ITALY 1-1

Highlights and statistics >>

After Saturday’s victory over Belgium, the Slovaks were big favourites at home against Italy. Thanks to the three points they’d secured in their opening match, a win here and they would advance to the knockouts with a game to spare, but this did not happen. The Italians, who fiercely defended the whole match, took advantage of Slovakia’s weak shooting efficiency and a big mistake of the home Goalkeeper in the last minute of the match. So Slovakia will have to wait until their final game to see if they progress.
